Melville #1 Field Procedures

Managers who do not follow these procedures, will be subject to disciplinary action.

Travel Games & Summer All Star Games

In the event of a travel little league game, or a summer All Star Game involving a team outside of Fairfield National Little League, it is the FNLL manager and coaching staff’s responsibility for all set up and closing activities listed below. This includes the operation of the score board.

Score Board

It is the away team’s responsibility to operate the score boards. They must retrieve the score board from the supply room located on top of the hill, adjacent to the restroom and place it on top of the pole located along the right field foul line. They must nominate one (non-coaching family) parent to oversee the score board and it’s operation during the game. Once the parent is nominated, they must go over operation with them before the game begins.

At the conclusion of the game, the away team manager and coaches are responsible for returning the score board to its proper location.

Week Nights, First Weekend Game and last Weekend Game

Home Team

Before the game, the home team should open the locker located behind home plate and take out the bases. If the field is still tarped, they should remove the tarp and place it in a safe area so players, coaches and parents do not trip over it. Please reach out to the division coordinator for locker combination. After the game, they then need to make sure all garbage and trash is removed from the first base dugout. It is the home team’s responsibility for placing the tarps on both the pitcher’s mound and home plate at the conclusion of the game. The home plate tarp has weights build into it, so there is no need to use bricks to hold it in place. The home team then needs to remove the bases and put the plugs in the holes to prevent dirt build up. They then should place the bases in the locker and lock it up once the visiting team has completed their procedures. In addition, please make sure the rakes are stored away for the night in the supply room. Please obtain a key to the supply room from the division coordinator

Away Team

Before the game, the away team needs to take out the defibrillator from the storage locker located behind home plate and place it in the third base dugout. Additionally, the away team is responsible for ensuring a first aid kit and sufficient ice packs (at least 4) are readily accessible in the storage locker. They should also follow procedures listed above for the Score Board, if operational and being used for non-travel / all-star games. At the conclusion of the game, they then need to make sure all garbage and trash is removed from the third base dugout. They then need to place the defibrillator back in the storage locker and return the score board to the supply room. Please replenish used ice packs and notify the safety / division coordinator if a new first aid kit is needed.

Weekends

Home Team

If they are the first game of the day, they should follow the procedures for opening the field listed above. At the conclusion of the game, the home team needs to clean up the first base dugout and then rake/groom the field for the next game. If they are the last game of the day, they need to follow the weeknight procedures for shutting down the field.

Away Team

If they are the first game of the day, they need to follow the procedures for opening-up the field listed above. At the conclusion of the game, the away team needs to clean up the third base dugout. They should make sure that the next coaching group takes possession of the defibrillator. If they are the last game of the day, they need to follow the weeknight procedures listed above
